FORGERY. 1890 Telegraph Receipt for message
sent from Manila to London. Telegraph stamps cancelled with 18 April 1890
Correos / Manila circular date stamps. Forged Block of four of the 5p
Telegraph stamp (Edifil 21) with top left stamp damaged on top. Some perf toning
noted for accuracy. These forgeries were created and used to deceive the
government and are one of very few known forged stamps actually used during
the Spanish Period. Very scarce and rarely offered, moreso
on original document. A single 5p forged stamp was offered at 500 Euros
by a Spanish Auction house in 2024. |

According to a historical Spanish‑language newspaper La Voz Espanola, Hospital Espanol de Santiago, with about 31
beds, was founded in Manila on 24 March 1902 to care for Spanish

issue (Scott 500) and 1p Purple Independence Fund Drive stamps affixed on
front tied with Manila (4 July 1946) circular date stamp. Blue-Green circular
first day cachet handstamp on bottom left. Appears to have been posted a few
days later, with Manila (8 July 1946) duplex departure cancel on reverse and
Laoag (11 July 1946) Ilocos Norte receiving circular date backstamp.
Generally fine overall condition. Scarce usage and seldom offered. |

available at the Manila Hilton and Hotel Intercontinental over the duration

with statement that this is Tax Free for use on the Armed Forces of the
Philippines. Fresh colour and generally fine condition. Note: Fighter Cigarettes were a budget cigarette
brand sold in the Philippines, known for being cheap compared to premium
brands and common among working-class smokers due to affordability. They were
associated with Fortune Tobacco Corporation, one of the largest cigarette
manufacturers in the country at that time. |
