Sc6-11

Circa 1856
Cover to Pagsanjan (Laguna)

Provenance: Marcelo Rodriguez Moreno

Filatelia Numismatica Guadalquivir de Sevilla - May 18, 1978 (Lot 734)

Comment: During the early Spanish period, many of the provincial towns either had no access to postal cancellers or chose not to use them, evident from many covers, mainly addressed to Manila, only tied with receiving cancels. In cases where covers were sent inter-city (other than Manila), a few covers exist where both the source and destination towns did not apply a cancel thus the stamp remained un-cancelled. In some cases, stamps had a manuscript (pen) cancel applied.

A total of six covers are recorded bearing a 5-cuartos domestic rate stamp, indicating that the Postal Authorities authorised the use of this rate specific for this cause.
