Scott N37 PROOF. Mint (NG). 5c Laurel Puppet
Republic Anniversary issue. Single right margin Perforated Proof stamp.
Commonly found rough perfs. Very fresh and fine. The first public
announcement of the Bureau of Communications stated that these stamps were to
be issued perforated and gummed. It is apparent that the Bureau attempted to
perforate the stamps, but the poor quality of the paper combined with the
dullness of the pins in the perforating machine made the task impossible to
achieve. For whatever reasons, the Bureau was unable to issue the stamps with
gum. Examples of the 5s value are found perforated (12x12-1/2), without gum,
and are proofs looted from the vault of the Manila Central Post Office during
the battle for the liberation of Manila. |

FORGERY. Mint (OG,

Double Surcharge. Ink used on second overprint is lighter, the second surcharge
strike does not properly align, and the periods after K and P are more
rectangular compared to circular dots on the genuine surcharge. Philatelic
Foundation reference (Certificate Number 133236) indicating surcharge is a
forgery. Dangerous forgery and a great reference stamp. |
