Note 1: This overprint was produced on a typeset plate, in serif lettering. There is considerable variation in letter size, shape, measurement and spacing observed on a number of genuine overprints. Bartels even goes as far as stating that ‘there may be as many variations as stamps in the sheet’. As a result, Bartels Types V and VI are not differentiated as two separate types.

Note 2: Bartels Types XVII and XXVII are virtually identical. As a result, and in an attempt to keep the surcharge references simplified, these two surcharge types have been merged and are represented under Type XXVII.

Note 3: Bartels also lists a Type XXI, indicating that this type only exists on Scott #94 and is rare. This Type has not been included as no examples have been seen to date to ratify that this surcharge type exists.
