Stampless Cover. 1848 Cover from Manila to London, via Singapore and Marseilles. Dateline Manila 20 March 1848. Notice on reverse indicating cover sent via Russell & Sturgis forwarding agent. Singapore boxed transit cancel and 24 May 1848 receiving circular date stamp. As per French-British treaties a total of 2-shillings 3-pence charged to the recipient (with manuscript 2/3 on front). Original two page letter remains intact. Very fine. Scarce usage.

Scott 1. Mint (NG). 5-cuartos Orange with fresh colour and four average to good margins, none touching the outer frame lines. A couple of minor washed stains noted for accuracy, not mentioned on certificate. These do not detract from the overall appearance of this truly magnificent gem of Philippine philately. Fondo Beneficio Espanol. Mint (NG). Charity stamp produced to raise funds for the families of the cruiser Blas de Lezo which struck a rock near Cape Finisterre in 1932 and sank in deep water. The seal was used in the Philippines and is known on a number of philatelic and commercial covers in the early to mid-1930s. Fine stamp and seldom seen unused.

Scott NB8 - Unlisted. Mint (OG, NH). Unissued variety of the Scott NB8 souvenir sheet. This unlisted variety was discovered and looted from the Manila Central Post Office on 22 February 1945 during the battle for the liberation of Manila. Most of the printing was destroyed by fire with only around 100 undamaged examples reported to have survived. This souvenir sheet shows the frame around the stamps with double border lines in green. The top inscription is the same as the issues sheet but there is an inscription located at the right centre of this sheet. The inscription on the bottom is replaced with the date Disyembre 30, 1943. This is a very fine copy, with no faults and very seldom offered so fine. A chance to own one of the gems of the Japanese Occupation period.

Returned to Sender for Postage Due (3) cvos handstamp with boxed censor chop alongside. 3c Postage Due Double Bar variety affixed to top left of cover and tied with Manila No 2 (10 October 1942) Circular Date Stamp. The scarce double bar overprints was accomplished by applying two parallel hand-ruled lines to obliterate Commonwealth. Issued as an emergency measure when the first class letter rate was raised from 2c to 5c on 1 September 1942 to cover the deficit on short-paid letters. This remained in use until the official Postage Due stamp was made available on 14 October 1942. Very fine.
